tv on the radio

Recently, I went to see TV on the Radio at the Liquid Room in Ebisu. Hesitant due to the cost (so was everyone else I asked, hence), I went to the venue anyway, confident that there would be tickets left. But when I arrived, I found that the price had gone up 500 yen despite there being no mention of advance tickets on the handbill or any kind of price change. But of course! This is Tokyo; I shouldn't be surprised by a stunt like that anymore. I showed them the handbill and tried to explain that if the door price is different it should appear on the handbill and that this was false advertising. They just looked at me, confused, "it's 500yen, dude, go back to your trash bin"; valid yes, but principles... Next time, the door charge will be eleven thousand yen, just because it seemed like a cute number. This was obviously a sly trick to squeeze our lemons, because no one will walk out over 500 yen once they've taken the train all the way there already. I didn't anyway...

The show was good. I dig their new album, and their old stuff--in fact, my oldroomate and dear friend gifted me with this band when I left the homeland. Along with sweet nostalgia, I had a good time on the merits of the evening, and to my complete surprise a fellow who I struck up conversation with turned out to be a generous smoker which neutralized the pain of the door gauge. yay. People were even moving around, and I definitely heard 'woo'. 4.5/5.
Next, Summer Sonic.

That band is rad! I wish I had money to see these bands in J-pan but such is life! Check out Secret Machines. They were interesting and will be playing at Summer Sonic. Salah. -k

Hey E. Long time no see. Just refound your blog after losing it in "my favorites" during moves and new internet connections since leaving Japan. Glad I found it again. Hope everything is going well for you. Tell S. I said hello too!
