Ravi Shankar and the tower of Tokyo

A while back there was an India festival in Yoyogi park. It was great because festivals in Tokyo are what make the city seem alive for a moment and remind me of why I like living here. At this festival I slurped up more curry than I should have and nan and butter chicken and daal, and wandered around light and hopeful on waves of dreamy sitar and incense. Closing the festival on the final day was Ravi Shankar, accompanied by some Japanese musicians on the Tabla and Tamboura. It was beautiful and left sweet sounds in my mind for days following. For such a reminder of the sub continent and a great cultural gap meeting and greeting, I give two himalayan thumbs up.
I'm not sure where in India this dance originates from,
but it was snakey and rythmic and beautiful.
